About Hyderabad
HYDERABAD, the capital of southern India’s Telangana state, is located in the heart of the Deccan plateau.
Famous for Charminar, the bustling metropolis is known for Cyberabad–the IT City.
Hyderabad is Telangana’s largest and most-populous city and is the major urban centre for all of south-central interior India. From 1956 to 2014 Hyderabad was the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, but, with the creation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh in 2014, it was redesignated as the capital of both states.
Hyderabad is located on the Musi River in the heart of the Telangana Plateau, a major upland region of the Deccan (peninsular India). The city site is relatively level to the gently rolling terrain, at an elevation of about 1,600 feet (500 metres). The climate is warm to hot and monsoonal (i.e., marked by wet and dry periods), with moderate annual precipitation. Most rain falls during the wet monsoon months of June to October. The city has awe-inspiring prehistoric rocks and natural lakes, a variety of flora and fauna, a rich culture and an enduring history.
Hyderabad offers tourist attractions such as monuments, lakes and parks, gardens and resorts, and museums.
From world-famous pearls to traditional arts and crafts, from branded textiles to ethnic wear, from fabulous diamonds to glass-embedded bangles and the delicious ‘Hyderabadi Cuisine’, the city is a shopper’s delight!
Hyderabad is unique as tradition and technology co-exist even as the city is steering to new dimensions in Information Technology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals, and Business Management.
Hyderabad has become a hub of trade and commerce and an international centre for information technology (IT). Pharmaceuticals, cigarettes, and textiles are among the items manufactured there. Service activities have expanded dramatically, especially those associated with IT, so that they have come to constitute the lion’s share of the city’s economy. Tourism has grown in significance. The city has long been associated with the production of Telugu-language films, which gave rise to its nickname Tollywood.
Connectivity
Hyderabad has good intercity transportfacilities. There are rail and air services to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru (Bangalore), as well as to historical sites including the nearby Golconda fortress and several other historical sites in the neighbouring states. Taxis, auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws, private vehicles, and suburban bus and rail services provide local transport. Work began in 2012 on the first of three projected light-rail lines in the region, which were intended to help ease traffic congestion.
